Managed or Unmanaged VPS for 124WebMessenger

Hello,

If I understand it right, for running only the 123WebMessenger an unmanaged VPS is sufficient, as no ControlPanel, no multiple domains, no mysql, no php is needed. Is that right?
Do i need to install firwalls and so on an ummanaged VPS?
