Not sure what I've missed here but my joomla/FC site is showing the users real name instead of their username when they log into chat.
Can someone please tell me where I can change this setting. Thanks. |

I thought I saw that setting somewhere in FC as well. I was sure I set it to username but now can't find any such option. God; had to wait 1400 seconds before I could post this. Wish someone would reset that timer, it's way too long. |

Oh lordy, it's hard to be patient.
Now support is emailing me asking what is wrong. They don't understand the difference between Name and User Name (Username). I'm starting to get the sense these people don't write this software, that they count on someone else to give them the input they need to answer certain things. Don't know, just frustrating that even simple questions are so hard to express. |

And what happens when you put the switch I mentioned to Real name instead?
(Just trying to think of a solution here) Apparently FC is getting info from the wrong table in your database. I am using the same software as you (JS plus FC) and I don't have that problem. So... Either something (Joomla, JomSocial or FlashChat) wasn't installed properly. Some added software (extension) is screwing things up. Some previously installed and then deleted software left traces in your database that is doing the same (that is what happened to me: Only a completely clean install resolved that). As far as the latter goes: I got an "official" backend template from the Joomla site that made a complete hash of the system until the people of JomSocial removed it. Personally, rather then looking where the fault might be (as the possibilities are endless) I would opt for wiping the whole lot and start with the latest versions of all three packages. Start with Joomla and have all your users test it. When everything is OK, go for JS and do the same. Make sure everything works: Adding groups, videos, messaging etc. Then make a backup of the whole lot before adding FC to the soup. If something goes wrong then at least your original site can be back up in a few minutes. It is just my own opinion but the amount of problems you have ran into surprised me a little. Plus it made me wonder if there might be something at the base of your site that is malfunctioning - maybe something as silly as tables that need rebuilding for instance. Anyway, hope this was of some help! F. |

Just tried that, doesn't seem to make a difference. >Apparently FC is getting info from the wrong table in your database. It's using jos_users because it didn't want to use jos_community_users. What's yours using? >Either something (Joomla, JomSocial or FlashChat) wasn't installed properly. >Some added software (extension) is screwing things up. Who knows, could be anything with software. So many darn variables. >As far as the latter goes: I got an "official" backend template from the Joomla site >that made a complete hash of the system until the people of JomSocial removed it. Do you mean the one that comes with jomsocial addon? I think we've got that installed which is how she's got it working from the JS toolbar. >I would opt for wiping the whole lot and start with the latest versions of all three >packages. Start with Joomla and have all your users test it. When everything is OK Did that before, didn't change anything. The install process itself is very straight forward, it's all configuration options from there which is stuff support should know about. They are talking to me in ticket about it so maybe we'll have a fix soon. |

Wait now, worse, only seems to do it with certain accounts.
Just testing and we see that most users are showing up as username but some or at least one, is showing up with real name or what is in Name section of user manager. Need to do more testing. Damn, have to wait 1335 seconds again to post. Man that's frustrating. |

This is my main frustration with this place.
First, they never understand the question the first time. Fine, there's a language barrier, I understand that. BUT, the most frustrating part of all is how they reply to SOME messages, at most, once or twice per day, they never stick with you through a problem, which ends up taking MANY days to fix. This is why you see me with the problems you do. The problems are minor, it's the never ending support slowness that keeps the problems alive. They could be fixed within minutes if anyone stuck to a problem long enough to get it done. GRRRR |
