we have been testing the chat in an office enviroment and if one user gets kicked from a room the other users are also not able to enter this room any more (they are on the same network and probably have the same IP to the outside world.

is this correct behaviour ie. does kicking a user ban this IP address from this room. or should this not happen?

Yes, that's the way it works by default.

In your case, I suggest you disable this feature of "kick is accompanied by ban 15 minutes", in this way:

open "default.xml", find:
<kick-ban-timeout>15</kick-ban-timeout>
change it to "0".

then restart chat server to confirm the change.

Now you can go on testing!
