What would cause my internet security to switch itself off?

when I switched on my older computer, I noticed that my internet security software did not show up on the task bar so I opened it up elsewhere and discovered that it had been switched off. Nobody else uses this machine. I enabled it to come on but now it will not display any pages that are secured. What could be wrong.

I suggests you to reinstall your internet security software and install another browser such as firefox or google chrome, then restart computer to try those webpage.
