dll protection

i don't know if this question is worth answering, but anyway..........

suppose i buy an "ActiveX Component dll" such as for creating barcodes or pdf or anything.....
and i distribute the dll with my program
how well it is protected, that no body else could use it.

The files may have methods to protect themselves. If not, there is no good way to prevent them from being accessed.
