Default reading external txt file

Hello,
I'm looking for some help and my apologizes if this has been asked before. I'm currently using the swfonline app and was wondering if the .exe, which is created on the fly from a browser, can read external variables from a .txt file (xml would be preferred). Ideally my swf wouldn't change but the text and some images would be dynamically called in from a txt file. Is this possible to do and how? I've been going through the tutorials but am kind of lost at this point. Thanks for any help! ???
