Hello everyone, I hope that someone out there can shed some light on my situation.
I used SWFKit to create a stand alone CD presentation for one of my clients. I set it up to expire after 1 week so the client could approve the work before I burned 200 copies of it, thus not allowing him to just run off with the demo and burn his own. Anyway, he approved of it and I removed the check box for the expiration and burned a copy, tested it on my computer by setting the clock ahead by a month, and it did not expire, so I burned the remaining 199 copies. After the transaction was completed, I received a call from my client stating that all of his CD's have a 1 week expiration. Of course, this was my worst nightmare. Had I accidentally replaced the check box? I re-opened my saved SWFKit session, and the check box was NOT checked. I went to my client's office and put 5 different, random disks in the drive, only to have all of them display the expiration screen. Figuring I screwed up, I RE-BURNT 200 new copies, being sure that there was no expiration on the new one. A day after receiving the new shipment, he again complained of the expiration. Now I was growing suspicious, so I took the original order and went to other computer systems, and sure enough, NONE of them showed the expiration screen, even after setting the date ahead by an ENTIRE YEAR. However, there was another machine at my office, that I had originally displayed the expired demo on, that was STILL showing the expiration screen, even with the new disks that did not have an expiration on them. In conclusion, it appears that the machines (his and mine) that had run the original demo, STILL show the expiration on the disks that do not have an expiration on them, but machines that NEVER ran the original demo with the expiration, do not display the expiration on the new disks, because there is no expiration on them. I have cleared out ALL temp files on the computer, and still am unable to display the cd presentation without the expiration popping up, when there is no expiration on this new presentation. Is there another place that SWFKit stores this information? A registry entry that needs to be deleted? ANYTHING? My client is furious, and I don't blame him. The problem is not my fault, yet I have to take full responsibility for it, because no matter what, he is INCONVENIENCED and unable to watch his own presentation on his computer. Any help would be MORE than greatly appreciated. I am at my wits end and have already pulled all of my hair out. If I can not resolve this problem, I will have no other choice but to discontinue using SWFKit, as I can not afford for such mistakes to occur in the future. |

with other words: it's in the registry
"The registration information is stored in the registry, you can get it with the "RegKey" object. We can also offer you an activex object to check if the sn and the reg code is valid." look at the register.zip in the presales forum. |

Hi BadBooWisdom, I'm very sorry to hear that. :-[
It's the fault of SWFKit, We are so sorry! The response is so late, sorry again :-[ SWFKit identifies a project by four elements, type - projector or screen saver name - the .skp file name version - set in projector options->information company name - also set in projector options->information If all the elements are the same, the produced programs are treated as the same one. The programs share the same data stored in the registry, include the expiry option. You need to save your project as another file or change the version number and build it again to avoid the situation you have met. If you want the CDs already burned to work, you must tell your clients to remove the registry key, HKEY_CURRENT_USER/company_name/product_name/version/Settings/Options We will release the fixed version of SWFKit in several days. Please don't hesitate to email us if you got any problems, I promise a very quick answer. |
